Battlestar Galactica - spoiler warning if you've not seen it all

I blogged some time ago about how I really liked what I'd seen of this reboot. There was the odd thing of a false start with season 1 without the pilot... it really is better with the pilot first watched. Now I'm at the end, what do I think?

It's an excellent series. Not quite perfect, but nearly. The dark places it went, and wasn't scared to question. Below the surface were some incredibly complex stories. No easy, pat answers, either, though I suppose they are there if you want to see them. Was it God? Clearly stated that view is up to you, the viewer.

I felt sated, like it was a perfectly satisfying meal that hasn't left me either full to burst or still hungry.

It went some places I wish it didn't, but it followed its logic even then.

What impresses me most is how it took a treasured childhood memory of an admittedly daft sci-fi show that was pure space opera and made something interesting and thought-provoking. It took the elements of that original 1970's series and played with it, extended it, rooted it more in what might really happen with such a scenario. And that was my first reaction having watched the final episode last night: it took something from the original (Earth, modern day - aka Galactica 80) and made it their own.

I have some quibbles, but emotionally it hit all the right places for me. For those reasons I send a humble thank you to Glen Larson and the producers for taking the risk and getting it so impressively right. It'll be something for me to re-watch with pleasure.
